Most of us did, at one time, deleted important files from our PCs by accident, didn't we? Fortunately, there are file recovery tools such as FreeUndelete. It allows you to recover practically any deleted file or folder, even once you have emptied your recycle bin. The program fully supports NTFS file systems, but also older ones, such as FAT32, FAT16, and FAT12.
The program includes a tree navigator, which allows you to select the drive you want to scan for deleted files. Unluckily, you can only analyze entire drives, not individual folders, using FreeUndelete. However, it allows you to filter the searches for both files and folders by typing custom strings. You can also select an output location to hold the recovered items to prevent file overwriting. The duration of the scan process will depend on your drive's size and on the amount of deleted information, though it is normally a fast process.
Finally, FreeUndelete also includes a so-called "MFT Dump Utility". It allows you to select a logical NTFS disc from a list. The program will then display some status information about its Master File Table (MFT) and will write it to the "MFTDump.hex" file in your disc root.
To sum up, FreeUndelete is a handy and lightweight application which helps you recover any files or folders you deleted previously, without any complications.
